Gabriel Pennington is a co-founder and early investor in THE ILLEST CLUB, a South Jersey–Philadelphia streetwear brand that has grown into a seven-figure business in under three years. At just 14 years old, Gabriel made the initial investment that helped launch the company after recognizing the potential in an idea his older brother, Gavin, had for a new streetwear brand. His early belief in the vision helped transform the concept into a rapidly growing brand with a strong cultural following. Today, Gabriel contributes to the company's financial strategy and long-term growth while continuing to deepen his knowledge of investing, entrepreneurship, and business development.
A rising junior at St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia, Gabriel is an honors student pursuing one of the school's most academically rigorous curricula while competing as a varsity basketball player. His commitment to entrepreneurship also earned him admission to the highly selective University of Pennsylvania Wharton School Global Youth Program, where he concentrated his studies in entrepreneurship to further his understanding of innovation, business formation, and venture creation.
Gabriel's entrepreneurial vision extends beyond investing. He is the founder of Ashton Capital, a private New Jersey family investment group focused on disciplined, long-term investing in publicly traded U.S. companies. As part of that initiative, he is also leading the development of an AI-powered investment research platform, currently in beta, designed to enhance equity and futures market research by integrating historical and real-time market data, quantitative algorithms, trend analysis, and Gabriel's proprietary investment selection methodology into a single analytical platform. The project reflects his passion for combining finance, technology, and artificial intelligence to improve investment decision-making.
Gabriel's philosophy is rooted in the belief that the next generation must learn not only how to earn money, but how to deploy capital wisely. He believes that understanding ownership, capital allocation, leverage, and long-term investing empowers young entrepreneurs, athletes, and creators to transform early success into lasting equity, opportunity, and generational wealth.
His long-term goal is to attend the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania to study finance before pursuing both an MBA and Juris Doctor, while continuing to build innovative investment platforms that expand access to financial education and opportunity for the next generation of founders, athletes, and creators.
Gavin Pennington is the Founder, CEO, and Creative Director of THE ILLEST CLUB, a rapidly growing streetwear and media brand launched in August 2023 that has grown into a seven-figure business in just over two years. Gavin founded the company at 16 years old while a student at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia, recognizing an opportunity to combine his instinct for design, storytelling, and social media influence to build a brand rooted in culture and community.
THE ILLEST CLUB launched with early support from his younger brother, Gabriel Pennington, who became the company’s first investor after recognizing the potential of Gavin’s vision. Together they helped turn the concept into a fast-growing cultural brand with a strong following among young creatives and trendsetters.
A nod to 1980s and 1990s hip-hop vernacular, the name 'ILLEST' represents the coolest, most impressive, and most authentic version of oneself. The brand embraces the idea that once someone catches the 'ILL,' it becomes more than fashion—it becomes a lifestyle and community.
Entirely self-taught both creatively and operationally, Gavin independently developed the brand’s visual identity, design language, and storytelling approach while also teaching himself the business side of building a modern apparel company. He learned overseas manufacturer sourcing, production logistics, fulfillment systems, marketing strategy, and brand development, creating the infrastructure necessary to scale the company from concept to a seven-figure brand.
Within just 18 months of launching, THE ILLEST CLUB premiered at Philadelphia Fashion Week, introducing the brand to a broader fashion audience. The brand recently expanded its presence even further with a street activation and pop-up experience during New York Fashion Week, bringing its community-driven energy directly to one of the fashion industry's most influential global stages.
His designs blend distressed and rugged elements with elevated fabrics and detailed craftsmanship, creating pieces that balance raw street culture with high-end aesthetics. Each collection reflects his experiences and artistic perspective. Gavin has also expanded the brand through a community-driven Ambassador Program that allows supporters and followers to participate directly in the brand’s growth, reflecting his belief that the strongest brands today are built through community.
A graduate of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, Gavin now attends the Howard University School of Business where he studies Business Management and Entrepreneurship while continuing to scale THE ILLEST CLUB.
